About Me

I’m an English PhD candidate at Stanford, where I work on American women’s Literature with a methodological focus on feminist theory, queer theory,  and narrative form. 

My research focuses on how women writers during the Progressive Era imagined alternative objects—sexually, economically, and narratively— beyond the marriage plot. I pay particular attention to how physical objects heighten, focalize, or redirect narrative desire and pleasure when the traditional narrative “object” of the male love interest is absent. 

I’m excited by material culture, particularly women’s domestic material culture, and by making academic writing and thought open and accessible to the public. These interests extend into my public-facing work with the Internet Archive on preserving regional cookbooks and my public humanities work through Stanford, Arcade and the Stanford Humanities Center. 

I’m also a committed teacher and writing instructor. I’ve sought out several opportunities to both improve my pedagogical training and to teach outside of Stanford’s campus, often in volunteer roles, including acting as an editor for the Stanford Jail and Prison Education Projects Literary Magazine, teaching writing-focused courses at Hope House, mentoring undergraduate students in their writing, and providing free writing education to first-gen and low-income students.
